TOETVA – Transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy with vestibular approach
Thyroidectomy with access through the oral cavity
TOETVA (Trans Oral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Vestibular Approach) – Transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy with vestibular approach – modern innovative technology that ensures safety, effectiveness and excellent results in thyroid surgery.
TOETVA has been gaining popularity around the world since its inception in 2016. Scientific and clinical studies and tens of thousands of successful procedures performed around the world prove its effectiveness. This technology was first introduced in the USA at Johns Hopkins University.
TOETVA has a significant advantage over traditional methods, allowing you to avoid incisions and scars on the neck when partially or completely removing the thyroid gland, nodes or tumors (depending on their size).
How does it work?
During the procedure under general anesthesia, a small incision is made in the mucous membrane of the lower lip, through which specialized endoscopic instruments are inserted. They pass under the skin until they reach the thyroid gland area. The operation is carried out under the control of a camera and endoscopic equipment.
TOETVA Advantages
Research and publications from around the world unanimously emphasize the safety, high results and minimal complication rates of the endoscopic approach compared to traditional methods.
TOETVA is a safe method of thyroidectomy in children and, in carefully selected cases, can be discussed with patients and parents as an alternative to the transcervical approach.
The disadvantage of TOETVA is that it increases the operating time by 1 hour, which is not suitable for all patients.
Ichilov Hospital is the only public hospital in Israel that performs this type of surgery.
